With flavours of honey, brown sugar & strawberry, this coffee that hails from the Muungano Coffee Cooperative in the DR Congo has an intense body and delicate acidity. As with most African coffees, we recommend enjoying this one black.
Muungano means “togetherness” in Swahili. Located on the slopes near the shores of Lake Kivu, this cooperative today has over 4,300 farmers investing in coffee and their communities. Founded in 2009, it is a young cooperative that exports up to five containers per year of specialty coffees to Europe and North America. Most of its farmers (95%) deliver their fresh cherries to the cooperative for processing and the remainder wet process their coffee at the farm level. Once divided by civil war, its members have made the choice to combine their strengths to build a better future for themselves & their communities.
